Bing Alum Tries Cheering

I came across this article written by a Bing Alum, and I wanted to share it:

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123740487698075061.html?mod=googlenews_wsj

His name is Matt Phillips and he started at Binghamton in 1996, back when they were DIII, and called the "Colonials." The article talks about the fast move to DI, and the Bearcats quick rise to greatness. This success has created a new found sense of pride and school spirit for Matt, as well as many others. Cool article.

Thanks again!

Well, we didn't win, but we had so much fun making the website. It was perhaps one of the more surreal experiences I have ever had to see Binghamton play Duke in the NCAA tournament in HD; frankly I still can't really believe it. I thought we got the bad end of some calls, but overall, it was a fun game, so no hard feelings there.

I wanted to once again thank everybody for coming and checking out the site, it means a lot to us to get as many views as we did. Maybe next year, even though we at the site are all graduating, we could come back and do it all next year when Binghamton wins the America East again! If that day comes, I hope you will all join us for that.

I think we should all be really proud of our Bearcats, they gave it their all against a very talented team. Enjoy the rest of the tourney, and thanks again.

Binghamton Epic Run At Glory Video

As we are so close to game time, I thought it would be cool to post this video that I made in honor of the Bearcats. It is a photo montage which chronicles the incredible run that Binghamton has put together, ending in victory!

I hope you all enjoy it...

We Need Mo Music

Bearcat Profile: Maurice Taylor AKA Mo

Maurice Taylor, a man who has dedicated his soul to the spirit of Binghamton University, is a staple of the Bearcats and deserves much due. The man has created, by far, the best pep band in the America East Conference. His band can compete with any top programs' and his charisma is enough to light up the whole Events Center. Mo gets involved in the game and with the fans, becoming a leader of several chants, including his beloved chest pound AAAAoooo AAAooo AAAooo after every made free throw.
Mo puts the spirit in the spirit squad and is a man among boys as far as band directors go. He has been a welcomed addition to the ZOO and his leadership and dance moves, creates an unprecedented atmosphere. This guy has more guts than that other Mo from that TV show with Mike O'malley! He throws in feet stomping, lung busting, songs and chants at all the right moments, even getting the Townies involved. Mo, you make us all sing Hey Baby and we love you for it.

This is a solute to you my man, we need Mo music!

Please comment if you do too!

#1 Reason Why Binghamton is Better Than You

#1.) Everyone in the America East hates us because WE ARE BETTER THAN YOU!!!

#2 Reason Why Binghamton is Better Than You

#2.) We do not lose (11 game winning streak - third longest active streak in the nation).

#3 Reason Why Binghamton is Better Than You

#3.) We do not cry when we lose (please see Trimboli, Mike above).

#4 Reason Why Binghamton is Better Than You

#4.) This is Binghamton's first appearance in the men's NCAA tournament since moving to the Division I level in 2001. That means that Binghamton has made exactly one more appearance than the University of Hartford, the University of New Hampshire, the University of Maine, and Stony Brook University...combined.

#5 Reason Why Binghamton is Better Than You

#5.) We have D.J. Rivera. And you don't.

The much anticipated top 4 reasons will be posted every half hour as we get closer to game time, starting at 4!

#6 Reason Why Binghamton is Better Than You

#6.) Speaking of sex, us Bearcats always practice safe sex...

#7 Reason Why Binghamton is Better Than You

#7.) Tiki Mayben gets more pussy with one eyebrow than you do with two.

This is our boy Tiki ROFLing after he saw members of the BU Zoo with unibrows drawn on their head.

#8 Reason Why Binghamton is Better Than You

#8.) Jaan! Jaan! Jaan!

#9 Reason Why Binghamton is Better Than You

#9.) For all the time the New York Times focuses on Minja Kovacevic, Malik Alvin, or Kevin Broadus, you would never realize that we are mired in the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, the unemployment rate in the state of Michigan is near 12%, and less than two months ago the first black President in American history was inaugurated.

#10 Reason Why Binghamton is Better Than You

#10.) While we are on the subject of Tom Brennan, let's take a look at the coaching resumes of some of the top America East coaches in their first two years in the America East:
Will Brown: Record 14-34, NCAA Tournament Appearances: 0
Tom Brennan: Record 8-47, NCAA Tournament Appearances: 0
Kevin Broadus: Record 37-24, NCAA Tournament Appearances: 1

#11 Reason Why Binghamton Is Better Than You

#11.) Tom Brennan grimaces every time he is forced to mention Binghamton's name in the NCAA bracket on ESPN.

#12 Reason Why Binghamton is Better Than You

#12.) No one makes the job of being the conductor of a pep band look more cool than Mo.

#13 Reason Why Binghamton is Better Than You

#13.) Our fans rushed the court after winning a semi-finals game...against the University of New Hampshire...in Albany.

#14 Reason Why Binghamton is Better Than You

#14.) We play our games in the state-of-the-art Events Center. You play in a high school gym.

#15 Reason Why Binghamton is Better Than You

#15.) We have led the league in attendance every year, and when we travel, we will have more fans in your gym than you will for your own team.

(Binghamton Fans at Albany)

#16 Reason Why Binghamton is Better Than You

#16.) Reggie Fuller has more heart than the Tin Man.

#17 Reason Why Binghamton is Better Than You

#17.) We have the best arsenal of chants. SAFETY SCHOOL!!!

#18 Reason Why Binghamton is Better Than You

#18.) We have the BU ZOO.

Top 18 Reasons Why Binghamton is Better Than You

After checking out this site, there may still be some people out there who are not convinced that Binghamton is better than you. So, in honor of these people, every hour, I will post a countdown of the "The Top 18 Reasons Why Binghamton is Better Than You." If you are not convinced now, just wait, you will be.

An awesome pic of the team as they board the plane to Greensboro. They are sporting their newly acquired AE Championship hats, looking excited and ready for the journey that lies ahead of them. Let's make Duke remember these words forever: "Beware of the Bearcats!"

Here is yet another picture from BUBEARCATS.COM. After storming the court, fans give props to "Papa Bearcat" himself, Tony Kornheiser following his strong support for his bearcats on "Pardon The Interruption." This support has continued as TK mentioned Binghamton 5 or 6 times during today's show. Let's make Tony, and the rest of the bearcats faithful proud in Greensboro tomorrow! Go Bearcats!

Finally Someone Knows What They're Talking About...

Slam Online wrote this article today in response to the air head Pete Thamel's NY Times article. It's pretty funny that Pete has made himself look like a complete jackass. Thanks Slam Online!

Rick Pitino With Some Nice Things To Say

Here is the Louisville head coach Rick Pitino talking about our big match up against Duke. He says some nice things about our team, but then is dead wrong about the outcome. It's OK Rick, I still have a lot of respect for you and your program, and also have Louisville in the Final Four on my bracket.

Our Boy Tony Kornheiser

This man has done so much for us in terms of press in the last couple of weeks. We can't thank him enough for the positive press and the awesome interview for our school paper. Here is Tony Kornheiser talking Bearcats during PTI.

Binghamton In The Media

Over the next few posts I'll point out some of the highs and lows of Binghamton's media appearances this season. We'll start off with the infamous idiot that everyone has grown to hate and not trust at all, sitting along side the man who WEHH WEHHs more than a newborn, none other than Pete Thamel and Tom Brennan! Here they try to argue with the Binghamton Athletic director about Binghamton's recruiting habits this season, but all I hear is crying and tears coming from these two jerks who have an agenda. Underlying issue at Binghamton? WE ARE WINNING AND YOU DON'T LIKE IT, WEHHHHH WEHHHHHHHH WEHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. And Thamel gets called out for some of the BS he wrote as well. Enjoy.

After a thrilling 61-51 victory over UMBC, the BU Zoo storms the court to celebrate with their team in an epic photograph:

The team poses for the first picture as America East Champs. They celebrate now, knowing that they are in for their biggest challenge of the season against an unknown, yet undoubtedly large foe.

Fittingly, Coach Kevin Broadus rounds out the photography series in grand fashion, cutting down the net, and bringing Binghamton their first AE regular season title and championship. This is why he was coach of the year.

Bearcats Trivia Corner:

And now the answer to "Bearcats Trivia Corner," first here was the question:

which Bearcat said:

"We're not scared of anybody. They put their uniforms on the same way we do. We're going to be ready to play on Thursday."

The answer is......

Number 2 in your programs, number 1 in the America East.....D.J. Rivera! In an article in the Press and Sun Bulletin, Rivera expressed his confidence in his team as they head for the NCAA tourney. D.J. and the rest of the "Broadus Bunch" are fresh off a victory vs. UMBC, a game in which he received "Most Outstanding Player of the America East Tournament." He will bring that fire to Greensboro to take on the Dookies.

These next set of pictures are from BUBEARCATS.COM, a great website with lots of great information., stats, and photos. Here is the event center during the opening tip. Major props to the townies for completing the "White Out."

Here are J.D. Rivera and Malik Alvin celebrating after an exciting play.

*One more hour until we reveal the answer to the trivia question....last chance to answer....

The question again:

"We're not scared of anybody. They put their uniforms on the same way we do. We're going to be ready to play on Thursday."

Which Bearcat said this? Post your answers as comments to any of these trivia corner posts!

Where is Blakely?!?!

America East Player of the Year Marqus Blakely is simply a sham. The kid led his team to a nice second place in the America East conference this year (its no first though), and led his team to a nice loss to Albany in the first round of the America East Tournament (its no championship though). You must be thinking, "this guy should get some due outside the conference shouldn't he?!?" Well he hasn't and shouldn't. Blakely's only national recognition he earned is his delicious tears that have been selling like hot cakes (please see previous post for your tears today).

D.J. Rivera, the true player of the year, gets due because he deserves it. It does not need to be argued that he is a better player, simply look at where his team is (in the NCAA Tournament) and where Blakely's is (slapping Tromboli's ass in the dorms). D.J. is one of the top Mid-Major players in America, way better than the supposed player of the year in Blakely, and Fox Sports Network has made it obvious.

http://msn.foxsports.com/cbk/story/9313326/Time-for-awards,-All-American-teams

Scroll to the bottom and see D.J. make the MID-Major All-American team.

As a great fan had on their sign at the AE Tourney in Albany, "Hey Blakely, cry me a Rivera!"

Vermont Tears Are Indeed Shedding as We Speak

After doing some cruising of the web, I stumbled across the America East forums over at http://basketballforum.com, and found a humoring topic of Vermont fans looking forward to their Junior Prom.

http://www.basketballforum.com/america-east-conference/424549-were-going-dancing-too-well-kinda.html

Well at least you got into the NIT Vermont EDIT: I am sorry, as my colleague has informed me that it this lovely topic is not about the NIT, its about the College Basketball Inivitational, the NIT of the NIT WOW. In the words of the Bros, “We’re going (real) dancin, We’re going (real) dancin.”

It's a celebration as Binghamton heads to the AE Championship at home following a must win over New Hampshire in the Semi-finals!

Binghamton - An epic run at glory through photography #13

D.J. Rivera made the biggest play of the season in the America East by stealing a pass down by one with less than 15 seconds left on the clock. Instead of having to foul, Rivera got the steal, ran the floor on a fast break, and exploded to the rim with a monster jam that lit up the crowd to give the Bearcats the win. Notice the expressions of Lakusa, Fuller, Tiki, and the bench on the left side of the frame. M-V-P! M-V-P!

Binghamton - An epic run at glory through photography #12

In the semi-finals of the tournament, Mayben sinks a three over #24 Colbey Santos of New Hampshire. A member of the BU Zoo puts up the universal symbol for a three pointer in the foreground. Tiki leaves his hand in the air, as Santos pretends not to see him. Flashy? I gotta think so.

Binghamton - An epic run at glory through photography #11

Entering the America East Tournament on March 7th after winning the regular season, #1 seed Binghamton plays #9 Hartford from the SEFCU Arena in Albany. After scoring 29 points, including 15 of 18 from the free throw line, guard Malik Alvin celebrates in front of a crowd jam packed with BU Zoo members who made the trip to Albany.

Teammate Moosa Camara joins him in the celebration, while Reggie Fuller puts his hands up in celebration. They won the game 73-65.

Binghamton - An epic run at glory through photography #10

After going into overtime, Binghamton holds on to win 70-69 in a wild finish. With 0.6 seconds left and the victory clinched, Reggie Fuller holds his hand up with pride as the BU Zoo goes wild in the background.

Binghamton - An epic run at glory through photography #9

Guards Rivera and Mayben slap hands in the foreground, with America East banners looming in the background. Binghamton's banner hangs over their heads, suggesting that the AE's destiny lies in their hands.

Binghamton - An epic run at glory through photography #8

Yet another highlight dunk from D.J. Even the camera guy for Time Warner Sports can't believe it! Take note of the scoreboard in the top left: his steal and dunk led to a Bearcats rally that sent the game into OT.

Binghamton - An epic run at glory through photography #7

The explosive Rivera elevates to knock down a jump shot against New Hampshire on February 22nd. Bing was on a five game win streak going into the game.

Binghamton - An epic run at glory through photography #6

Against Maine, Tiki sinks one of many threes this season in front of the Bing bench. Later on in the week, Binghamton would overcome a seemingly insurmountable 25 point deficit against Vermont behind Tiki's 5 threes, and 31 points, with 16 of those coming in the final 6:17 minutes. Thus beginning the free flow of Vermont tears, a common thread throughout the season.

Did I mention how flashy Tiki is?

Binghamton - An epic run at glory through photography #5

Moving ahead to the conference schedule, Binghamton played Maine on January 31st, 2009. After a loss UMBC on three days earlier, the Bearcats won 83-77, and began their incredible 11 game win streak, the longest active streak in the country behind only Memphis and American University. Here, D.J. proves why he is the AE's leading scorer, while number 22 is left to both marvel at his
excellence, and avoid being posterized.

Binghamton - An epic run at glory through photography #4

From the same game, Senior forward Reggie Fuller has an emphatic reverse jam over a "defender" who can only shield himself from the awesome power of number 25.

He has stepped up big for the team this year, playing with pure heart. He has averaged 10.7 points, 7.1 boards, and 1.7 blocks.

Binghamton - An epic run at glory through photography #3

Here is Tiki Mayben, our starting point guard. Hailing from Troy, New York, Tiki was recruited by Syracuse, who expressed interest in him. He played at UMass for a year, then at Hudson Valley Community College, before transfering becoming a Bearcat. He has averaged 11.5 ppg, 4.6 apg, 4.0 rpg, 1.1 spg, and has been a big part of the team's success.

This shot is from the first game of the season on November 17th, 2008 against Mansfield. The bearcats won easily, with Tiki scoring 16 on 5-7 from the field, with 7 assists, and 5 rebounds. That day, the BU Zoo got their first look at the flashy junior transfer.

Binghamton - An epic run at glory through photography #2

Continuing with Late Night Madness, this is Baxter, the Binghamton University mascot.

Here is D.J. Rivera, a St. Joseph transfer who was at that point unknown to the majority of the zoo. He made sure everybody knew who he was from that night on by winning the dunk contest in memorable fashion with this highlight dunk, which earned him the title of dunk champion.

Binghamton - An epic run at glory through photography #1

Hey guys,

The next bunch of posts will chronicle the Binghamton season with a series of photos I have taken from games throughout the season. Beginning with Late Night Madness, and going through the regular season, all the way to the victory in the championship game at the Event Center against UMBC.

The first few are from Late Night Madness during homecoming weekend at Binghamton University. Here is Kevin Broadus, the America East Coach of the Year. He is responsible for bringing this great pre-season event back on campus after the athletic department shut it down the year before. He shows his pride by wearing a famous "BU Zoo" shirt, showing his love for the great student section.
Bearcats Trivia Corner:

When asked about drawing a first round game against Duke in Greensboro, which Bearcat said:

"We're not scared of anybody. They put their uniforms on the same way we do. We're going to be ready to play on Thursday."

If you have an idea, post your answer in the "comments" section. The answer will be posted at 5:40 PM tomorrow.

The Real Player of the Year

Thanks to our man Randy, we have this great video of DJ Rivera's clutch steal to secure a 3 point lead over UNH with 12 seconds left. Thank you Mr. Rivera, you were the true Player of the Year and the league knows it.

Binghamton Is Simply Better Than You

And now a poem for all to enjoy, a simple rhyme OI OI OI!

Binghamton is simply better than you,
we wear green not purple, nor yellow too

The Zoo is indeed the sixth man of the year.
We showed all of Albany how much louder we cheer.

Binghamton is simply better than you,
We are united with “Lets go Bearcats” on cue.

Tromboli cries why Blakely chokes nearby,
and Will brown is caught sucking off some guy.

Binghamton is simply better than you,
Toss in the spirit squad and baby you got a stew!

You kid yourself thinking your cool,
Please, Albany you were always my safety school.

Binghamton is simply better than you,
No matter how much the New York Times’ words are skewed.

Boston, Boston you choked, you choked,
You should have never had D. J’s ballot revoked

Binghamton is simply better than you,
We are dancing, don’t you wish you could too.

Binghamton is simply better than you.

Richmond Times Dispatch Moron

I wanted to draw everybody's attention to an author by the name of Paul Woody who writes for the Richmond Times Dispatch. In an article written and posted yesterday, Woody tried to say that Radford, his favorite team, deserved better than a 16 seed, while our Bearcats deserved a 16 seed. Here is a link to his article:

http://www.timesdispatch.com/rtd/sports/columnists/article/WOOD16_20090315-223305/232485/

He clearly has no idea what he's talking about, as Dan and I pointed out to him in the comments section. The fact is, Binghamton got screwed out of a 14, or even a 13 seed, while Radford is lucky they won their joke of a conference tournament.

Be sure to post on the site, email, or even give Paulie a call, since he left his phone number, and let him know just how wrong he is....

CP3's daily pics - 3/16/09

Welcome to the "Binghamton Is Better Than You" blog! Every day, I will post another one of my pictures of everyone's favorite team: The Bearcats. These are pictures I have taken throughout the season. All images are very high res, taken with a cannon 20d or 30d depending on the shot.

Today's pic is from the America East Tourney in Albany last weekend. The team surrounds the REAL AE MVP, D.J. Rivera as they prepare to beat
New Hampshire and advance to the championship game.

*Also - look at the dejected Albany fan to the left of the basket. His team had just lost 20 minutes before.
